Gazes
The eyes have it: "Gazes", by ceramics student Chan Sin-ming, is one of more than 50 pieces on display.
*

A display of more than 50 works of art - including sculpture, ink-painting, painting, print-making and ceramics - will open to the public tomorrow at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre. The works are the creations of 46 graduates of the 2006-07 Art Specialist Course.

The works' themes reflect the  artists' personal aspirations and feelings, childhood memories, impressions of arts learning and interpersonal relationships.

The Art Specialist Course the Art Promotion Office organises aims to provide advanced and specialised training for art lovers to develop their individual artistic directions, and contribute to enriching Hong Kong's art and cultural scene.

The nine-month course offered disciplines in sculpture, ink-painting, painting, print-making and ceramics. Under professional artists' guidance and renowned guest instructors' teaching, students were able to gain an understanding of the local art scene, consolidate their arts skills and enhance their visual arts knowledge.

The graduates' exhibit will run until February 11.

Five Art Specialist Course co-ordinators - Liu Siu-jane (print-making), Yim Wai-wai (ceramics), Lee Chin-fai (sculpture), Leung Kui-ting (ink-painting) and Li Yau-mang (painting) - opened the exhibit today.

Course details

The course comprises class meetings, studio sessions, visits to exhibitions and artists' studios, special lectures, studio tuitions and the graduates' art display.

The 2007-08 Art Specialist Course will begin on April 11. If you have questions about the course, call 3101 2735 or visit the Art Promotion Office website.

The Visual Arts Centre is located at 7A Kennedy Road, Central, Hong Kong. It opens daily from 10am to 9pm except Tuesdays. Admission is free. For enquiries, call 2521 3008.
