Young designers win $2m sponsorship
*

Six people have won Young Design Talent Awards 2006, gaining a total of $2 million in sponsorship for overseas study.

Civic Lee and Karen Lee won the DesignSmart Young Design Talent Awards while Ken Hui got the Young Design Talent Educational Award. Chan Hei, Chan Hei-sing and Martin So won the YIC Young Design Talent Award.

Commissioner for Innovation & Technology Anthony Wong expressed gratitude for the $1-million donation from the industrial and education sectors to the awards, which combined with $1 million in Government funds to raise the sponsorship money.

He said the award scheme is part of the Governmnet's efforts to build a deep talent pool. Last year, five young designers received the inaugural awards.

Winners' works are being showcased at the Innovation & Design Expo until tomorrow at the Convention & Exhibition Centre.
