Report charts way forward for education
*

The Education & Manpower Bureau today published a report, "Action for the Future - Career-oriented Studies & the New Senior Secondary Academic Structure for Special Schools". It charts the way for the implementation of career-oriented studies and special schools' new senior secondary academic structure.

The report was the result of a three-month consultation launched in January to gather stakeholders' views and feedback.

The bureau says it has the school sector's support for career-oriented studies to provide a diversified pathway for students under the new senior secondary academic structure. The term 'applied learning' will apply to career-oriented studies courses.

It will also take measures to ensure these courses' quality and promote their recognition. In the coming years, the bureau will conduct research and development projects to provide insights on curriculum content, resources and manpower requirements. It aims to enable students with special educational needs to stretch their potential, to lead fulfilling lives and contribute to the community.

The success of the career-oriented studeis and new senior secondary academic structure for special schools hinges on the efforts all community members, the bureau said.

Its report is available on its website. To see it, click here. Hard copies of the report will be delivered to schools in September. The bureau will also hold seminars and briefing sessions on the report in September and October.
