Volunteers wanted to promote work safety
*
Labour Department

Volunteers who would like to help disseminate work safety messages are welcome to join the Labour Department's Customer Service Teams Project.

Volunteers will help distribute publicity materials on occupational safety and health as well as relevant laws during the summer.

The department said work accidents in the catering industry constituted 52.6% of reported cases in all industrial sectors last year.

At the same time, the number of accidents involving repair, maintenance, minor alteration and addition works made up an increasing share of the total number of construction accidents at 42.5%.

Catering and renovation and maintenance establishments will be the targets of visits by volunteers this year. About 250 will visit 14,000 establishments in the next four months.

Volunteers who are aged 17 or above and have attained secondary school level or above are welcome to join the project.

For enquiries call the Labour Department on 2852 3565 or 2852 4970, or the Social Welfare Department's Central Office for Volunteer Service on 2116 3417, or 2234 0100.
