Secretary for Education & Manpower Professor Arthur Li announces Edmond Ko will chair the independent committee on teachers' workload and pressure, with recommendations to be ready by the end of the year.
Prof Li said Mr Ko, currently the Senior Advisor to Dean of Engineering and Adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Science & Technology, is a world-renowned scholar with plenty of experience in university administration. He also has a good understanding of frontline teachers' work.
Mr Ko has been involved in Hong Kong's education development. He is the member of the University Grants Committee, Council for Academic Accreditation, Advisory Committee on Teacher Education & Qualifications and the Advisory Committee on School-based Professional Support Programmes.
Prof Li pointed out the most urgent issue to address now is teachers' workload and pressure. He hopes the independent committee's recommendations, to be ready by the end of the year, will help relieve teachers' workload and pressure.
The independent committee will hold a preparatory meeting on Friday.
