Most English and Putonghua teachers have attained the Language Proficiency Requirement through exemption, authorised training or assessment, while most of the rest are making progress in attaining it, the Education & Manpower Bureau says.
Of the 12,659 English and 5,902 Putonghua teachers, 10,081 and 4,864 have attained the requirement.
The Examinations & Assessment Authority released today results of the September Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers.
About 59% of English teachers have acquired the basic requirement in reading, with 39% of candidates attaining the basic requirement in English speaking, 64% in listening and 30% in writing. For Putonghua, 58% of teachers attained the basic requirement in Pinyin, 42% in speaking and 68% in listening and recognition.
A total of 2,440 candidates sat for the English papers and 1,881 for Putonghua. Of them, 1,577 were self-claimed English teachers and 911 were self-claimed Putonghua teachers.
Result notices have been mailed to candidates. Those who do not receive them by December 7 should contact the authority at 2239 2771. Applications for rechecking of results and for rechecking-and-remarking will be accepted until December 13. Candidates will be informed individually of their appeals results by January 10. Applications for taking the exam in March will be accepted until December 21.
