*
Labour Department

A cleaning contractor has been fined $42,000 at Sha Tin Magistracy for failing to grant statutory holidays and rest days to five staff.

Yip Man Professional Cleaning Services is contracted to care for Lung Hang Estate, Sha Tin. The offence was revealed when Labour Department officers inspected the estate between January and March.

The department checks workplaces frequently to meet with workers and review their employment records to safeguard their rights. From January to August, 531 inspections on government service contractors were held to check for compliance with the Employment Ordinance. Seven were prosecuted and 41 convictions were secured.
