*

Secretary for Education & Manpower Professor Arthur Li has appointed 10 members to the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee and re-appointed Tai Hay-lap as the committee chairman. Their appointments will take effect on January 16.

The 10 new members are Stephen Chan, Professor Lorna Chan, Fung Ka-ching, Prof Lee Wing-on, Pang Yiu-kai, Dr Louisa Tang, Justein Wong, Wong Kwan-yu, Professor Wong Po-choi and Lisa Yip.

Meanwhile, Gordon Kwong and David Sun have been appointed to the Quality Education Fund Investment Committee. The appointments will take effect on March 11.

The fund was established in early 1998 with a capital of $5 billion to fund community initiatives which promote quality education in Hong Kong.

Since its establishment, the fund has supported 5,250 projects with a total grant amounting to $3.038 billion.

The steering committee advises on policies and operation of the fund. It also makes recommendations to the fund's Trustee on the awards of grants. The investment committee was set up alongside the steering committee to set policies for and monitor the investment of the fund.
