Over 99% of S3 students allocated places
*

Of the 74,650 Secondary Three students requiring allocation this year, 99.76% have been allocated subsidised Secondary Four or Post-Secondary Three craft course places, the Education & Manpower Bureau says.

Results of the 2003-04 Junior Secondary Education Assessment will be released tomorrow.

In the current cycle, 72,812 students have been allocated subsidised S4 places, with 93.88% of them continuing their studies in their own schools. Another 1,659 students have been allocated craft course places.

Only a small number of S3 students were not allocated a place because they had indicated they would not accept places other than those of their choice in the central allocation.

Registration details

S3 students participating in this year's Junior Secondary Education Assessment System should return to their schools to check the allocation results tomorrow.

Those who have been allocated to other schools or institutes/training centres of the Vocational Training Council or the Construction Industry Training Authority will each be given a registration form. It must be surrendered to the allocated school or institute/training centre during registration on August 13.

If a student is unable to collect his/her form tomorrow or turn up for registration on Friday, the student's parent should authorise, in writing, a representative to collect the form or register with the allocated school or institute/training centre. The original school must ensorse the authorisation letter for registration.

A student should bring along the following for registration:

* the registration form;

* his/her Hong Kong Identity Card;

* two recent passport-size photographs; and

* sufficient money for one month's school fee, which may be required by the school.

For registration with the allocated institute/training centre for a craft course, a student should bring his/her registration form and Hong Kong Identity Card.

Those who fail to register on August 13 will be considered as having given up the S4 or craft course places allocated.

Limited Secondary 4 places still available

Those S3 students not allocated a place will be given an information sheet on education and training opportunities and a list of craft courses that still have vacancies. There are adequate craft course places and a small number of subsidised S4 places available for these students to apply for.

Those interested in applying for the craft courses may approach the following institutes directly:

* Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education of the Vocational Training Council,  on 2897 6111;

* Training and Development Centres of the Vocational Training Council, on 2836 1000;

* Training Centres of the Construction Industry Training Authority, on 2552 1441 or 2903 0696; and

* Training Centres of the Clothing Industry Training Authority, on 2743 3710.

The Education & Manpower Bureau's School Places Allocation Section will set up an enquiry counter at Lui Kee Education Services Centre at 269 Queen's Road East in Wan Chai during office hours from August 12 to 16 to render assistance to students. Enquiries can also be made by calling 2832 7770.
