The Hong Kong Institute of Education should be granted self-accrediting status in respect of its own teacher education programmes at degree-level and above, the Education & Manpower Bureau says.
The decision followed the recommendation of the University Grants Committee, which had conducted a review of the institution.
The review concluded that the institute is strongly led in respect of quality and is ready to move to self-accreditation. It is academically desirable to allow a degree-awarding institution to be self-accrediting, provided that it is deemed to be capable of undertaking such responsibility.
The committee also recommended that upon granting self-accrediting status, the institute should continue its endeavour in quality.
The institute will continue to be subject to the normal periodic teaching and learning quality process reviews and other quality assurance measures undertaken by the committee.
