Career video conference set for HK students

*

About 300 Hong Kong university students in Canada will join a cross-continent career video conference on March 5 to help them explore job opportunities here and to attract and encourage foreign-trained talent to return to Hong Kong.

Following the success of last year's pilot initiative, the Canadian HK Economic & Trade Office and the Commerce, Industry & Technology Bureau will run the coming video conference to cater for HK students in Toronto and other Ontario schools as well as those in British Columbia.

Deputy Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Raymond Young will host the event in HK, while HK Economic & Trade Office Director Bassanio So will host it in Toronto, and the office's Principal Communications Consultant Catherine Yuen will host it in Vancouver.

Private sector guest speakers to give advice

Four guest speakers from the private sector will serve as panelists to provide career information and advice on the opportunities available in specific sectors. They will also invaluable advice on the current situation in related job markets.

The speakers are BDO McCabe Lo & Co Partner Johnson Kong; HSBC Chief Economist George Leung; Cathay Pacific Airways Assistant Product Manager Andy Wong; and Sybase's Asia Pacific Human Resources Director Ricky Long.

RTHK will also webcast the video conference on its website. Fairchild Radio in Toronto and Vancouver will tape the event for broadcast next week
