The Government will not tolerate any school violence, Secretary for Education & Manpower Professor Arthur Li says, adding that schools should strengthen guidance and discipline work to prevent its occurrence.

Commenting on press reports of a suspected school violence case in Sham Shui Po, Professor Li said he has seen part of a video that captured it and felt shocked.

"I have seen part of it and I found it very shocking and unacceptable. This is why I come out so strongly now to tell you that I found it unacceptable, the Chief Executive found it unacceptable, and the Government found it unacceptable."

Schools and school principals will accept the policy of zero tolerance, that is, not allow bullying or molesting in schools, he added.

The bureau has contacted the school concerned to follow up on the case, while the Police will contact the bullied  through the school to clarify and look into the matter.

Training on building a harmonious campus on offer

To offer schools and teachers tips on preventing and handling school violence, the bureau distributed resource kits to all secondary and primary schools last month.

Training by way of seminars and workshops are also provided to brush up teachers' skills in handling such cases. Workshops on how to build a harmonious campus will be held in the next two months.
