The programmes began at City Hall where the Science Lecture on Manned Space Flight of China was held. Over 1,000 academics, teachers and students from tertiary institutions and secondary schools attended.
Opening the lecture, Permanent Secretary for Education & Manpower Fanny Law said the successful mission of the Shenzhou V spacecraft, which orbited the earth 14 times, was the fruit of diligent research by numerous scientists and aerospace engineers.
Delegation Vice Leader Xie Mingbao then briefed the audience on China's first manned space flight project.
In the afternoon, Mr Yang and other aerospace scientists attended a gathering with over 2,500 teachers and students from primary and secondary schools at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai.
In addition to describing the demanding training programmes for astronauts and the nation's first manned space mission, the delegates responded to questions from the students. They also toured an exhibition of aerospace exhibits produced by local students.
