Two training schemes that help youths formulate their career plans will accept applications from July 26 to August 18.
The joint enrolment will help streamline application procedures and avoid duplicate applications. Applicants will be streamed into suitable schemes according to their age and previous training.
Organised by the Labour Department, the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme was launched in 1999 and the Youth Work Experience & Training Scheme in 2002.
Programme targets teens
The first is a programme for teens aged 15 to 19, with training in leadership, discipline and team building, job search and interpersonal skills, computer applications and job-specific skills.
Upon completion of the course, trainees can undergo a one-month workplace attachment provided by Government departments, social service institutions, and public and private organisations.
Experienced staff will act as mentors to support trainees and there is no employment relationship between the organisations and trainees.
An allowance of $1,000 will be payable to trainees upon completion of the attachment.
Scheme enhances chance of landing employment
The second scheme aims to provide two-year, on-the-job training for about 10,000 aged 15 to 24 with education below degree level and with a view to enhancing their employability.
Finding more diversified and appropriate training places for young people is an important goal of the scheme.
Application forms can be obtained from the department's Careers Information Centres and Job Centres, Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department, District Offices, other designated training bodies, or downloaded from this website.
Online registrations will be accepted from applicants aged 18 or above. For enquiries, please call 2835 2288.
The department will stage an exhibition to promote the schemes and accept on-the-spot applications on August 2 from 2.30pm to 7pm and August 3 from 11am to 7pm at the Stars Atrium, 1/F, Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill.
