NPCSC to discuss reform package

*

The National People's Congress Standing Committee's Chairmen's Council has proposed putting Hong Kong's constitutional reform package on the agenda for discussion at the Standing Committee meeting from August 23 to 28.

The SAR Government is thankful to the committee for putting the (Draft) Amendment to Annex I to the Basic Law concerning the method for the selection of the Chief Executive forward for approval, as well as the (Draft) Amendment to Annex II to the Basic Law concerning the method for the formation of the Legislative Council forward for the record.

If the Standing Committee approves and records both draft amendments - which the Chief Executive submitted - for consideration, the five-step legislative process for amending the methods for selecting the Chief Executive and for forming the LegCo will have been completed.
