5 by-election nominations submitted
*

Five nominations in total were received for the Yau Tsim Mong District Council Jordan East constituency by-election with the close of the nomination period today.

Two nominations were forwarded today - journalist Chris Ip from the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment & Progress of Hong Kong, and Li King-wah, who is a chartered financial practitioner with no political affiliation.

The other three contenders are Lau Wai-kwong, a managing director with no political affiliation, community developer Austen Ng of the Association for Democracy & People's Livelihood, and a social service organisation's chief executive James Lung of the Southern Democratic Alliance. They were nominated on August 18, 25 and 26.

The Returning Officer will rule on the validity of the nominees' candidature shortly. If there is more than one validly nominated candidate, a poll will be held on October 5.

Electoral Affairs Commission Justice Pang Kin-kee will chair a briefing on election-related activities for candidates and their agents at the Yau Tsim Mong District Council conference room at Mong Kok Government Offices on August 30.
