HK, Beijing should bolster ties: CE

Chief Executive Donald Tsang says Hong Kong and Beijing should bolster exchanges, adding Hong Kong can learn from Beijing about heritage preservation.

On the last day of his Beijing trip, Mr Tsang toured the Beijing 2008 Project Exhibition Centre which houses models of more than 20 new and renovated Olympic Games venues.

He also visited the site of the National Stadium where the opening and closing ceremonies and athletic events of the Beijing 2008 Olympics will be held.

Beijing briefings: Chief Executive Donald Tsang visits the National Stadium site, views exhibits at the Palace Museum, and meets Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad President Liu Qi.

Games preparations in full swing

At the meeting with the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad President Liu Qi, Mr Tsang learned that preparations are in full swing.

Noting preparations for the equestrian events in Hong Kong are also progressing well, Mr Tsang said Hong Kong will make every effort to ensure the Beijing Olympic Games are successfully staged.

Mr Tsang also met Beijing Mayor Wang Qishan and exchanged views on city management. As Beijing and Hong Kong are international cities facing similar challenges, Mr Tsang and Mr Wang hoped the cities can strengthen ties and open up new opportunities for co-operation to promote prosperity and stability.

Masterpieces to go on show in HK

Mr Tsang said Hong Kong can learn from Beijing how to better preserve heritage and share experiences on transport, housing and healthcare management.

Before ending his three-day visit, the Chief Executive also toured the Palace and Capital Museums.

He said world-acclaimed masterpieces from the Palace Museum will go on show in Hong Kong to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR while an exhibition will be staged at the Capital Museum.
