In view of the good response from the public, the Science in the Public Service campaign will continue, with related activities throughout the year and a major event held every two to three years.

The campaign was launched on January 13, 2006, to enhance public awareness of science and its implications for daily life. A series of activities were held including a joint exhibition, science talks, a symposium, visits to government facilities, talks and a roving exhibition in schools, an essay contest and a radio programme.

Hong Kong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Tsui Lap-chee said the campaign offers a good opportunity to let everyone know about the Government's scientific work and the close relationship between the Government's application of technology and people's daily lives.

Hong Kong Observatory Director Lam Chiu-ying said 10 more bureaux and departments had recently joined the campaign, for a total of more than 40 partners.

"We believe the campaign will continue to flourish, and the idea of 'Advancing science, advancing service' will become ever more popular among the public," he added.
