Deputy Director-General of Civil Aviation Norman Lo will succeed Albert Lam as Director-General from April 17. Mr Lam will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day.
Secretary for the Civil Service Joseph Wong expressed full confidence in Mr Lo's appointment, saying he has profound professional knowledge and rich experience in the aviation field, and is confident he will lead the department in facing future challenges.
Mr Wong thanked Mr Lam for his dedicated and meritorious 41 years' service in the Government.
A job well done
The Secretary for Economic Development & Labour Stephen Ip said Mr Lam has made a significant contribution to the sustained development of Hong Kong's aviation sector.
"Under his leadership, the Civil Aviation Department has witnessed the move of our airport from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok and made every effort to support the burgeoning industry," Mr Ip said.
"Mr Lam has also played a pivotal role in developing and maintaining a world-class civil aviation regulatory regime for Hong Kong. I have full confidence in Mr Lo in taking up this challenging job and look forward to working closely with him to further enhance Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub."
Assistant Director-General Leung Yu-keung will succeed Mr Lo as Deputy Director-General from the same day.
Biographies
Aged 59, Albert Lam joined the Civil Aviation Department as a Control Assistant in 1962. He rose through the ranks to Airport General Manager in 1994, and Deputy Director-General of Civil Aviation in 1996. He has been the Director-General since 1998.
Aged 47, Norman Lo joined the civil service as a Student Radiographer in the then Medical & Health Department in 1976. He joined the Civil Aviation Department as a Student Air Traffic Control Officer in 1977. He was made Operations Officer in 1988, Senior Operations Officer in 1994, Chief Operations Officer in 1996, Assistant Director of Civil Aviation in 1997, and Deputy Director-General in 2002. Mr Lo is also a pilot.
