Sports development law set for repeal
*

The Executive Council has advised that the Sports Development Board Ordinance, under which the Sports Development Board was set up, be repealed. The repeal bill will be tabled at the Legislative Council later this month.

The Government announced earlier this year the establishment of a new administrative structure to promote a sustainable and community-wide sporting culture in Hong Kong. To implement it, the ordinance must be repealed.

The main provisions of the bill are related to:

* the repeal of the ordinance and the dissolution of the board;

* the vetting of all assets, liabilities, rights and obligations of the board in the Government;

* the legal effect of agreements, transactions and other things concerning the board which were in force immediately before the repeal of the board ordinance; and,

* pending legal proceedings concerning the board.

The bill will be published in the Gazette on November 14 and is scheduled for first reading and commencement of second reading debate in LegCo on November 26.
