Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa met with visiting British Prime Minister Tony Blair at Government House this morning.

 

The Chief Executive told Mr Blair how Hong Kong had bounced back with resilience and vigour after containing the SARS outbreak.

 

They noted the successful implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle in Hong Kong over the past six years, and that despite recent difficulties, Hong Kong had coped well.

 

Mr Tung also spoke of the new opportunities brought about by the Mainland/Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement and the enhanced cooperation between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region.

 

Chief Secretary Donald Tsang; acting Financial Secretary Stephen Ip, Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Henry Tang,  Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong and the Director of the Chief Executive's Office,  WK Lam, also attended the meeting.
