Over 310,000 voter registrations received
*

Over 310,000 forms were received during the voter registration campaign from June 1 to July 16.

The forms include new applications for registration, and electors' change of address notifications.

The Constitutional Affairs Bureau said as at July 20, the Registration & Electoral Office had validated about 193,000 forms, of which 49% were new registrations, and the rest were address updates.

In addition, since the registration deadline for inclusion in the 2002 final register on March 16, 2002, the office continued to receive new applications for registration and change of address.

Between March 17, 2002 and May 31, 2003, the office received around 8,800 applications, and a further 62,000 for updating address records.

All validated applications and changes of address will be reflected in the provisional register for 2003.

As required under section 32 of the Legislative Council Ordinance (Cap. 542), the Electoral Registration Officer must compile and publish the provisional register not later than August 15.

The provisional register will then be made available for public inspection from August 15 to 29.

The final register will be published no later than September 25.
