People's views will be weighed carefully: Tung

*

Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa says he understands people's concern on the legislative proposal on Basic Law Article 23. He promises to weigh carefully the views and suggestions from various sectors and let the public know as soon as a decision is reached.

Commenting on the procession on July 1, Mr Tung reiterated that it is Hong Kong's constitutional duty to legislate the national security law in accordance with the Basic Law.

This is also an important part of our relationship with the Central Authorities, he added.

Mr Tung reassured the community that the Bill will not affect the freedom and human rights that Hong Kong people have traditionally enjoyed.
