Human rights respected in HK: US

The United States has issued a report saying the Hong Kong Government respects the human rights of residents.

 

The US' Country Report on Human Rights recognises that people here enjoy the right to a fair public trial, and a host of freedoms including: peaceful assembly and association; religion; speech; and, movement.

 

It said children's rights and welfare is protected here, and acknowledged that domestic and international human rights groups operating here are unfettered by restrictions and that the Government is generally receptive to and respectful of their views.

 

The report said the media report and comment extensively on Mainland affairs, and Tibet and Taiwan.

 

The report notes Government reassurances that the draft legislation to implement Article 23 is compliant with international human rights standards.
