Rural voter registration opens

April 30, 2026

The Home Affairs Department today launched a voter registration campaign for the Rural Representative Elections, urging eligible individuals to sign up by June 16.

The department reminded the public that there are three categories of Rural Representatives: Indigenous Inhabitant Representatives, Resident Representatives and Kaifong Representatives.

Indigenous Inhabitant Representatives are elected by indigenous inhabitants of indigenous or composite indigenous villages, as well as their spouses and surviving spouses. Applicants must be aged 18 or above and hold recognised identity documents.

Resident Representatives are elected by both indigenous and non-indigenous inhabitants of a village.

Kaifong Representatives are returned by residents of Cheung Chau and Peng Chau.

For both Resident Representative and Kaifong Representative elections, applicants must be Hong Kong permanent residents aged 18 or above who have lived in the relevant village or market town for the three years immediately preceding their application.

Registered electors who wish to update their particulars are also required to submit their applications by the June 16 deadline.
