Contractor suspended from bidding
The Development Bureau has imposed regulatory action on a contractor involved in a January 12 fatal industrial incident at a private development project construction site in Kai Tak.
In a notification issued to the contractor, the bureau suspended it from tendering for public works contracts in the land piling category with immediate effect, in accordance with the regulatory regime.
The bureau highlighted that the contractor is on the List of Approved Suppliers of Materials & Specialist Contractors for Public Works.
It must commission an independent safety audit, then submit an improvement action plan and implement improvement measures to demonstrate that it has an effective safety management system in place before the lifting of the suspension from tendering can be considered.
The suspension is also applicable to tender exercises in which procedures have been initiated but not concluded.
The Labour Department is investigating the incident.
Subject to the department’s findings, the bureau may impose further regulatory actions on the contractor. This may include extending the suspension period and even removal from the abovementioned list of suppliers.
