Current-term LegCo ends Oct 24
The Chief Executive has specified October 24 as the date from which the seventh-term Legislative Council (LegCo) shall stand prorogued and its operation shall then be terminated, the Government announced today.
The decision was made having taken into consideration the electoral legislation concerned and the practice adopted in past public elections.
Taking into account that the 2025 LegCo General Election will be held on December 7, the nomination period for the election will be scheduled for October 24 to November 6.
The Chief Executive has specified the council's prorogation date in order to ensure that all candidates, including serving LegCo members, will compete on a level playing field.
LegCo’s prorogation date will be published in the Government Gazette on August 15.
