Scheme aims to help school leavers

May 9, 2024

The Labour Department announced today that it will stage Career Let’s Go, a special programme running from May to August, to help secondary school leavers enter the job market.

The programme aims to help school leavers obtain the latest employment information, plan for their careers and enhance their employability through diversified pre-employment training and employment activities. It is expected to draw about 14,000 participants.

Secondary school leavers can browse the dedicated webpage for suitable job vacancies and make applications.

The webpage also provides details on job fairs organised by the department, including recruitment days under the Youth Employment & Training Programme (YETP), recruitment days held at the department’s job centres and industry-based recruitment centres, and large-scale job fairs.

Under the Happy@Work programme, meanwhile, a series of practical training courses will be held at the Youth Employment Start centres in Mong Kok and Kwai Fong to boost the job interview skills and work ethic of school leavers. They will also be able to access career consultations and assessments as part of the programme.

The department urged all secondary school leavers opting to enter the employment market to join the YETP.

It explained that the programme is free of charge, with no limits on numbers of participants, adding that it offers one-stop, comprehensive pre-employment and on-the-job training, with allowances being paid to trainees.
