Georgian dance group to return

April 11, 2024

The internationally acclaimed Sukhishvili Georgian National Dance Company will return to Hong Kong to perform on May 31 and June 1, after a nine-year hiatus.

Dressed in dazzling traditional folk costumes, the dancers will showcase the customs and cultural heritage of Georgia in an extraordinary display of dance techniques that blend classical and contemporary elements.

The company’s male dancers perform complicated movements such as fast-paced spins, squat jumps and more with dexterity and passion.

They are in stark contrast to the soft and elegant movements of the female dancers, whose graceful glides and refined gestures make the whole performance a fine blend of strength and delicateness.

The company was founded in 1945 by eminent dancers Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili. It is the first professional national dance company in Georgia, and is committed to preserving the traditions of Georgian folk dance.

It has performed in nearly 100 countries and regions, staging over 10,000 performances.

Upon invitation by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department, the company will perform at 8pm on both dates at Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium.

There will also be a dance workshop to complement the performance.

Tickets are now available at URBTIX. Call 2268 7321 for enquiries.
