Lo Chung-mau visits Dongguan

March 14, 2024

On day two of his Mainland trip, Secretary for Health Prof Lo Chung-mau, along with a delegation from Hong Kong, left Guangzhou for Dongguan to meet officials there and visit the Dongguan Tungwah Hospital.

The delegation today first met Dongguan Deputy Mayor Li Jun and Dongguan Municipal Health Bureau Director Zhang Qiaoli.

Prof Lo introduced Hong Kong’s latest healthcare developments to the two officials, then had a thorough exchange with them on issues such as the Elderly Health Care Voucher Greater Bay Area Pilot Scheme, optimisation of hospital management, improvement of public health and enhancement of healthcare service quality.

The health chief pointed out that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government endeavours to keep strengthening and deepening healthcare exchanges and co-operation with Mainland cities.

He explained that the goal is to promote healthcare development in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area cities in a bid to enhance the service quality and efficiency, thereby contributing to the major national strategy of “Healthy China” through concerted efforts.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Dongguan Tungwah Hospital. The hospital was included in the pilot scheme as one of the pilot medical institutions by the Health Bureau last month.

Hong Kong elderly people who are eligible to receive vouchers under the scheme will be able to use the vouchers to pay for the outpatient healthcare services they receive at the hospital’s designated medical centres or medical service departments later this year.

Prof Lo returned to Hong Kong this afternoon.
