Applied learning expo launched
The Education Bureau today launched the "Applied Learning Virtual Exhibition 2023" to promote courses for the 2024-26 cohort.
The online exhibition will run until May 31 next year. Secondary school students, parents, principals and teachers are encouraged to visit the exhibition to gain a better understanding of Applied Learning (ApL) courses for 2024-26.
The bureau said students can browse the information provided by all 10 ApL course providers on 60 ApL courses, including course briefs, videos and students' sharing, to gain a better understanding of ApL as a valued senior secondary elective subject.
Three new ApL courses have been developed in the 2024-26 cohort, which include Gerontech & Services, Food Technology & Nutrition and Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
The bureau noted that ApL develops students' knowledge, generic skills, proper values and attitudes through simulated or authentic contexts, preparing them for further studies and work in the future.
It continues to refine the courses so that the learning content can keep abreast of the latest developments in different professional and vocational fields.
ApL covers six areas of studies including Creative Studies; Media & Communication; Business, Management & Law; Services; Applied Science, and Engineering & Production. In addition, there are Applied Learning Chinese courses for non-Chinese speaking students.
The bureau has also produced a video following the learning journey of a Health Care Practice ApL graduate who shares his personal story on how the subject helped him develop an interest in the healthcare industry.
