Deputy Chief Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing and Secretary for Home & Youth Affairs Alice Mak today officiated at the pledging ceremony of the District Services & Community Care Teams in Tsuen Wan District.

Led by Tsuen Wan District Officer Billy Au and the respective captains, the care teams of 19 sub-districts will strive to provide a wide range of caring services to the residents there.

At the pledging ceremony, Mr Cheuk pointed out that the objective of funding various groups to form the care teams is to strengthen community support and build regular relationships with residents, so that the district network can be mobilised promptly in case of untoward incidents and emergencies.

He also hoped that the participating youths would acquire a better understanding of community development and enhance their sense of belonging and mission to the community and Hong Kong.

Also addressing today’s event, Miss Mak said the pledging ceremony was a milestone in showing collaboration between the Government, the business sector and the community, thanks to the close co-operation and spirit of unity of the selected organisations.

The care teams would gather community power and live up to the spirit of serving the community to address residents’ concerns to build a caring community, she added.

After the ceremony, Miss Mak and Mr Au inspected the services provided by the care teams, including a health check and free Chinese medicine services. Mr Au, care team members and volunteers also called on residents living in public housing estates and subdivided units to understand their daily lives and needs, and gave out anti-deception messages.

Separately, the two secretaries visited a promotional street booth introducing the proposals to improve governance at the district level.
