Deputy Chief Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing, together with Director of Highways Jimmy Chan and Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Vincent Liu, visited Shenzhen today to study its landscape greening and cityscape enhancement measures.

He was accompanied by Urban Administration & Law Enforcement Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality Director-General Zhang Guohong and Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government Deputy Director He Xinhong.

Mr Cheuk studied the greening initiatives along the carriageways of Huanggang Road, Shennan Road, Jintian Road and Hongli Road, and visited Lianhuashan Park to view Futian Central District's greenery landscape and leisure facilities for a deeper understanding of the overall layout of the greenery landscape in Shenzhen.

He then met Vice Mayor of Shenzhen Chen Qing to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between Hong Kong and Shenzhen in cityscape enhancement and management. The Hong Kong delegation attended a lunch hosted by the vice mayor afterwards.

During a tour of the Shenzhen Intelligent Operation Center for Urban Management to understand the development of smart urban management in Shenzhen, Mr Cheuk and the Urban Administration & Law Enforcement Bureau had an in-depth exchange on matters including cityscape constructing and landscape greening and enhancement.

The delegation went on to visit the Dasha River Ecological Corridor to learn how the Shenzhen Municipal Government, by way of landscape beautification and reshaping, developed a 13km river bank for residents to go for a stroll, a jog, rowing or some tea.

Concluding his trip, Mr Cheuk said Shenzhen has rich experience in cityscape enhancement and there are many areas Hong Kong can learn from and make reference to.

“The information and inspiration we gained from this visit will be of immense help to the District Matters Co-ordination Task Force in carrying out cityscape improvement,” he added.
