COVID-19 allowance scheme to end

January 30, 2023

The Social Welfare Department today announced that it will no longer accept applications for the one-off ex-gratia cash allowance for locally confirmed COVID-19 patients starting February 14, while applications submitted on or before February 13 will not be affected.

The allowance is a temporary measure launched in late November 2020, which provides a one-off ex-gratia cash assistance to infected people who have to be hospitalised in public hospitals due to COVID-19.

As at January 27 this year, a total of 2,728 eligible people have received the allowance.

The department explained that following the Government's adjustment to the anti-epidemic measures, including the lifting of isolation orders for people infected with COVID-19 from today, the public is gradually resuming normal daily lives. Therefore, the ex-gratia cash allowance scheme will cease.

Eligible people should submit their applications by February 13. Late applications will not be accepted.
