CE mourns Ambrose Lee

Chief Executive John Lee today expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee and extended condolences to his family.

 

Ambrose Lee was appointed Director of Immigration in 1998 and Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption in 2002. He was appointed Secretary for Security in 2003, a post he held until June 30, 2012.

 

The Chief Executive said Mr Lee was dedicated to serving the Hong Kong community over the years. During his tenure as Secretary for Security, he made exemplary contributions in such areas as the maintenance of law and order, immigration service, customs control, as well as fire services, correctional services and the government flying services. He also commanded the respect and love of government colleagues and those in the community who had worked with him.

 

Ambrose Lee continued his dedication to serving the public after leaving the Government in 2012. He carried on with his contribution to the country and the city’s community when he became a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region deputy to the 12th National People’s Congress between 2013 and 2018.

 

“Mr Ambrose Lee was a senior officer whom I respected. I was deeply impressed by his dedication and commitment to serving the people of Hong Kong when I worked with him in various positions in the past.

 

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Ambrose Lee. On behalf of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, I extend my deepest condolences to his family.”

 

Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki stated that he is deeply saddened by Ambrose Lee’s passing, stressing, “We have lost not just a leader much respected by his fellows in disciplinary forces, but also a mentor and friend.”

 

Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung was also sorry to learn of the passing of Mr Lee and pointed out that the Security Bureau is deeply saddened by the news.

 

While Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang said he is shocked and saddened by Mr Lee’s departure, Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung expressed deep sorrow over his passing.

 

Also saddened by Mr Lee’s departure, Director of Immirgration Au Ka-wang said every possible assitance will be provided to his family.

 

The officials also extended their deepest condolences to Lee’s family.
