New-term govt sworn in

President Xi Jinping swore in Chief Executive John Lee and principal officials at the inaugural ceremony of the sixth-term Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today.

 

The ceremony was held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre this morning.

 

Witnessed by President Xi, Mr Lee took the oath of office, followed by the swearing in of the principal officials.

 

The Chief Executive then swore in Executive Council members.

 

About 1,300 guests attended the ceremony, including President Xi's wife Peng Liyuan, National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Vice-Chairman and the State Council's Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office Director Xia Baolong, as well as Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR Director Luo Huining.

 

Also joining the event were Legislative Council members, Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress and members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, political and economic figures, local dignitaries, Hong Kong-based Chinese enterprises' senior executives and members of the foreign diplomatic corps.

 

Separately, the Chief Executive has appointed four under secretaries and two political assistants of the sixth-term Hong Kong SAR Government who will assume office today.

 
The newly appointed officials are Under Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Bernard Chan, Under Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Joseph Chan, Under Secretary for Labour & Welfare Ho Kai-ming, Under Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Clement Woo, Political Assistant to the Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Julian Ip and Political Assistant to the Secretary for Home & Youth Affairs Gordon Cheung.
