Secretary for Development Michael Wong and Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan inspected the Kai Tak Community Isolation Facility (CIF) today.

Accompanied by Director of Architectural Services Winnie Ho, the two officials were briefed by the contractor on the scale and features of the project, as well as the challenges encountered during construction.

They also toured the isolation units and facilities to learn about the operation of the CIF.

The construction of the Kai Tak CIF began on February 19, which will provide about 3,000 units upon completion.

Each block of the CIF has four storeys and is equipped with lifts. Every unit is fitted with an individual toilet and bathroom.

By adopting the modular integrated construction method, the overall construction time of the project was reduced.

Mr Wong once again expressed gratitude to the central government for its staunch support, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for its intensive co-ordination and the construction team for working around the clock to enable the project to be handed over in phases in a timely manner, thereby enhancing Hong Kong's anti-epidemic capabilities.
