HK medicines approved for GBA

December 31, 2021

The Guangdong authority has announced the first batch of products approved for sale in the Mainland under the streamlined approval procedures for Hong Kong registered traditional proprietary Chinese medicines (pCms).

The products for external use are to be registered and sold in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Food & Health Bureau welcomed the announcement by the Guangdong Provincial Medical Products Administration (GDMPA), noting the approved products concern three items, comprising two products manufactured and registered in Hong Kong and the other manufactured in Macau and registered in Hong Kong.

Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan expressed gratitude to the central government and the GDMPA for their staunch support for the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong.

She said that within a short time frame after the GDMPA officially began accepting registration applications in September, Hong Kong registered traditional pCms began benefitting from the streamlined approval procedures.

Prof Chan noted that more applications are being processed and more products of Chinese medicine from Hong Kong for external use are expected to be registered and sold in the bay area.

“The relevant measure enables Hong Kong pCm manufacturers to expand their markets as well as creates favourable conditions for Hong Kong pCms to go global in the long run,” she added.
