Expo showcases ID card evolution
The Public Records Office's annual exhibition Identity Card - A Timeless Proof opened today and showcases the evolution of the Hong Kong identity card (HKID) since its first issuance in 1949.
Visitors will be able to chart the HKID's journey from a paper document to a laminated card, from computerisation to smart authentication in the past 70 years, reflecting the changes in society and technological advancements.
Exhibits include all generations of the HKID, card production equipment on loan from the Immigration Department, historical photos as well as promotional posters.
The expo also explains the reasons behind the changes in the designs of the cards.
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday (except for public holidays) at the Exhibition Hall, 2/F, Hong Kong Public Records Building, 13 Tsui Ping Road, Kwun Tong. Admission is free.
In view of the latest COVID-19 situation, visitors are reminded to follow the infection control measures implemented at the building.
