District Council vacancies gazetted
Twelve vacant elected seats in the Southern, Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, Yuen Long, Eastern, Sai Kung, Tai Po and Kwai Ching district councils were gazetted today.
The Tin Wan Constituency seat in Southern and the Hoi Bun Constituency seat in Tsuen Wan became vacant after the offices of elected members Tiffany Yuen and Lester Shum became vacant from today.
Their nominations were invalidated in the discontinued 2020 Legislative Council General Election as Returning Officers determined they were not in compliance with the declaration requirement.
In accordance with the amended District Councils Ordinance, they are disqualified from holding office from today, when the amended ordinance takes effect. Hence their offices have become vacant.
The seat in Tsui Ping Constituency in Kwun Tong has become vacant since May 4 as elected member Hung Chun-hin withdrew his appeal against a February court ruling that he was not duly elected.
Mr Hung lodged an appeal to the Court of Final Appeal (CFA) against the court ruling and later filed an application to withdraw his appeal request, which was granted by the CFA on May 4.
Another nine constituency seats became vacant following the resignation of relevant elected members.
