The Centre for Health Protection today reported that a couple was confirmed infected with COVID-19 and five family members tested preliminary positive for the virus.
The centre's Communicable Disease Branch Senior Medical & Health Officer Dr Ambrose Wong told a press briefing that there are six additional COVID-19 cases and the couple are among the local infections.
The 29-year-old wife has an unknown source of infection and her 38-year-old husband is classified as a linked case.
The female patient's parents who live together in Yuen Long, and three other family members who had gatherings with the couple in early April have also tested preliminary positive.
Dr Wong said: "We are facing two confirmed COVID-19 cases and five preliminary positive cases. If all five preliminary positive cases finally become confirmed, of course this is definitely an outbreak within the family.
"It is related to the Easter holiday. I think it is quite obvious, because of the family gatherings during the holiday. So I would say, yes, if all of them are confirmed to be positive, it will be one Easter holiday-related cluster."
He added that around 40 to 50 people who had close contact with the couple, including their friends and colleagues, are required to undergo quarantine.
The couple's residence and workplaces are also covered by compulsory testing notices.
The Government will set up a mobile specimen collection station at Block 19 of Meadowlands in Yuen Long on April 16 to provide testing services.
The four imported cases arrived from the Philippines, France, Italy and India.
