The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 68 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 61 are locally transmitted.

The centre’s Communicable Disease Branch Head Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan said among the locally transmitted cases, 46 are related to a dancing cluster.

Dr Chuang explained to reporters at a press briefing this afternoon that a huge effort is underway to cope with the significant increase of infections in the dancing cluster which has so far registered about 80 cases.

“It is growing quite fast. That is why we are very concerned and we are trying everything to try to control the spread, including the issuance of the compulsory testing notice, in an attempt to ask all the people (who had been to the relevant dancing venues) to come forward for testing so that we know the size of this outbreak and prevent further spread.”

The Government has exercised power under the Prevention & Control of Disease (Compulsory Testing for Certain Persons) Regulation (Cap 599J) to require any individual who had been present at 14 specified dance premises from November 1 to 21 to undergo a COVID-19 nucleic acid test by November 24.
