Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui today visited Wong Nai Chung Sports Centre and inspected the preparation work for its reopening.

The sports centre had served as a community testing centre and has been reinstated by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department since September 12, with deep cleaning and disinfection as well as reinstallation of sports facilities.

The department is reopening sports facilities in phases. Some indoor leisure facilities and water sports centres will reopen on September 17.

Anti-epidemic measures adopted by the department to safeguard public health include measuring visitors’ body temperatures and limiting their numbers, using disinfectant carpets and providing alcohol-based hand rub. Cleaning measures will also be stepped up.

Mr Tsui noted that the department has adopted special measures at reopened leisure facilities, including limiting the number of players permitted to stay in courts and lanes, closing spectator stands, cancelling bookings by organisations for competitions and opening alternate rinks and bays.

He said the reopening of sports premises provides more opportunities for people to exercise and maintain physical and mental health to combat the epidemic and resume normal daily lives under the new normal.

Mr Tsui called on the public to follow instructions and anti-epidemic measures.
