Road Users' Code updated
The Transport Department said the new edition of the Road Users' Code, which offers comprehensive advice and information to drivers, cyclists, passengers and pedestrians, took effect today.
Revisions in the new Road Users’ Code reflect amendments that have been made to relevant legislation since the code was last updated in 2000.
For example, public light bus and taxi passengers must wear seat belts, and drivers must switch off idling engines and adhere to statutory requirements in connection with drink and drug driving.
The new code provides additional advice to road users, including ways to ride a bicycle safely.
It also offers new information such as updates on strategic route numbers, traffic signs and road markings, along with revisions to illustrations and wordings.
With the new code’s launch, the content of the driving test and the taxi written test will be updated.
The new code will apply to candidates who submit applications for the written test Part A and the taxi written test from July 15.
It can be viewed or downloaded for free online or via the mobile application HKeMobility.
The print editions, in Chinese and English, will be available for sale from July 15 at the Information Services Department Publications Sales Unit at North Point Government Offices.
