DC member complaints handled
The Home Affairs Department today said it received many complaints against Yuen Long District Councillor Lam Chun for publicly declaring his refusal to assist people who support the legislation for Article 23.
In a statement, the department said it has referred the complaints to the Chairman of Yuen Long District Council and hoped the Yuen Long District Council would handle the case impartially.
It said the District Council member's discriminative treatment to members of the public due to their stance on a particular issue will only divide society and contradict the spirit of community building and public engagement.
There is a possible breach of the Code of Conduct for Members of a District Council or Its Committees, the department said, adding it has issued a letter to the district councillor to remind him to comply with the code of conduct and be aware of his words and deeds.
It also reminded Mr Lam of the guiding principles in the Guidelines on the Remuneration Package for Members of the District Councils of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It noted that his words and deeds may not be consistent with the guiding principles of the guidelines.
