HK athletes to join national games
Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah today officiated at the Flag Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Delegation to the Second National Youth Games.
More than 600 Hong Kong athletes will take part in the games to be held in Taiyuan, Shanxi from August 8 to 18.
At the ceremony held at Tsuen Wan Sports Centre, Mr Lau presented the Hong Kong SAR flag to Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China President and HKSAR Delegation Organising Committee Chairman Timothy Fok.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr Lau said the HKSAR Government has been allocating a lot of resources to nurture new talents and support athletes to participate in major sports events throughout the years.
Local young athletes are able to accumulate their experience and further enhance their skills through the competitions. With their perseverance and outstanding skills, they have lived up to our expectations and attained remarkable achievements in recent major sports events, Mr Lau added.
The HKSAR delegation comprises more than 800 members, of which 620 athletes will take part in final competitions in 27 sports including archery, cycling, fencing, equestrian, weightlifting, judo, swimming, gymnastics and badminton.
