The Education Bureau today announced the reappointment of Lester Huang as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Language Education & Research (SCOLAR).

A solicitor by profession, Mr Huang is Chairman of the Council of City University, an ex-officio member of the Education Commission and honorary member of the Court of the University of Science & Technology.

Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung said SCOLAR launched various initiatives to enhance Chinese and English language learning and teaching at all levels over the past four years of Mr Huang's leadership.

These initiatives helped build a professional language teaching force and create a language learning environment, he added.

Also re-appointed were seven serving members, while five new members joined SCOLAR.

Their appointments are for two years with effect from July 1.

Mr Yeung also thanked outgoing members Julia Chan, Margaret Cheng, Tavier Lau, Gloria Leung and Ma Ching-nam for their contributions.
