Countryside advisers chosen

June 28, 2019

The Advisory Committee on Countryside Conservation will be established on July 1 to advise the Countryside Conservation Office on priorities for conservation and revitalisation works.

The Environment Bureau said the committee will also counsel on policy and operational matters relating to the Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme.

Appointed and chaired by the Secretary for the Environment, the committee comprises scholars, professionals, rural and district stakeholders, representatives from green groups as well as government departments.

Members will serve for two years from July 1.

As announced in the Chief Executive’s Policy Address in 2017, the Government will continue to promote conservation efforts in remote countryside areas.

To fulfil that promise, the bureau noted the scheme will fund ecological preservation as well as architectural and cultural heritage revitalisation projects.
