Healthy diet campaign upgraded

Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan (centre) launches the EatSmart Restaurant Star + Campaign.
The Department of Health today launched the EatSmart Restaurant (ESR) Star + Campaign to encourage more restaurants to provide a wider range of healthier dishes.
The campaign uses up to three stars to indicate different EatSmart Dishes and promotions offered by ESRs and is an enhanced version of the EatSmart Restaurant Campaign which has been running for more than a decade.
Launching the campaign, Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan said the Government announced an action plan last year focusing on changing four behavioural risks relating to non-communicable diseases.
These four risk factors are an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use and harmful use of alcohol.
Noting a healthy diet is essential to the success of the action plan, Prof Chan added the catering industry is the Government's most important partner in promoting a healthy diet.
People can download the EatSmart Restaurant mobile app to search for ESRs when eating out.
