CS inspects Central & Western District

Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung visited Central & Western District today to learn about its latest developments in elderly services and land use.

 

Mr Cheung first visited the Sheng Kung Hui Western District Elderly Community Centre to learn about the Public Furniture and District Drawings programmes as well as various new initiatives for seniors in the district.

 

He said to promote gerontechnology, the Government has earmarked $1 billion to set up a fund to subsidise elderly service units to trial use and procure or to rent technology products, to improve the lives of seniors and reduce the burden on carers and care workers.

 

Mr Cheung then inspected the Central & Western District Promenade - Western Wholesale Food Market Section. He learned about the district’s harbourfront development and the next step in exploring opportunities for collaboration with facilities for non-government organisations and residents.

 

He also stopped by a government, institution or community site and was briefed on suggestions for its future use.

 

Wrapping up his visit, he met District Councillors to discuss local matters.
